| Muireann's Departure |
An illustration of a scene from the life of the mythical Irish hero Fionn Mac Cumhaill. When Fionn was young, his father was the head of a band of warriors named the Fianna, his father was challenged in his authority as the leader and killed in battle. Because of this Fionns' mother, Muireann, hides him from his fathers enemies. She delivers him into the care of Bodhmall, a druid woman, and Liath Luachra, a warrior woman, they hide him in a cottage/teachín deep in the wilderness away where no one can find him. Muireann has to return to the world though as they will find her and she has been promised to another, so she leaves her son in the cottage within the wilderness.

I love that story, I love how they trained him by chasing him around a tree and heaving a log into a lake and making him swim after it and bring it back, good stuff :)
ya those old stories have loads of interesting ideas for training. I wonder how much of them are practical.
Also interesting the way that both Fionn and Cuchullain were trained in war by women
